At Stone Hill School, we believe that the Geography Curriculum is a fundamental part of pupils’ education. Our Geography curriculum encourages pupils to be curious about the world around them and its people, thus gaining invaluable cultural capital. The Geography curriculum aims to foster learning behaviours and skills which will support pupils on their learning journey through school and into adult life. Our curriculum intends to give pupils a passport to the world. The range of topics cover local, national and world Geography with an emphasis on environmental issues. The topics have been carefully selected in light of their relevance to our pupils and to what is happening in the wider world at present. They are designed to spark pupils’ fascination of diverse people, places, resources and natural environments thus developing a deep understanding of the Earth’s physical processes and how the Earth changes over time. Through tangible and meaningful learning experiences, our curriculum intends to help pupils know more, do more and remember more. In classes 5 and 6, pupils are working at an adapted KS1 curriculum. Pupils develop knowledge about the world, the United Kingdom and their locality. They begin to understand basic subject-specific vocabulary relating to human and physical geography and begin to use geographical skills, including first-hand observation, to enhance their locational awareness. Pupils begin to explore some of the ways geographers learn about the world.
